Original Abstract Artwork: I have always had a creative side but never had time to spend on it. Now I am lucky enough to be able to focus on hand painting abstracts with acrylic, gouache, inks, and other water based paints. Almost all the textures are created with paint techniques, not mediums. My work evolves instinctively, involves multiple layers and textures, and references vintage painting techniques and mediums. I am inspired by historical architecture and try to invoke the feeling of old buildings with their peeling, cracking paint and multiple layers of history. Painting is a form of meditation for me so I love when people tell me that my work is calming, because I was calming myself when I painted it.
Vintage Furniture: I paint vintage furniture because I am drawn to the beauty of transforming old, worn pieces into something fresh and charming. Each piece carries with it a history and a story that I seek to honor and preserve through my creative work. The process of refinishing and painting allows me to breathe new life into these pieces, offering a blend of nostalgia and modern aesthetic that brings me immense satisfaction. Each stroke of the brush is a step towards reviving the past and creating something unique that adds character to any space. When considering purchasing items, opting for vintage over new presents a range of benefits. Vintage pieces often boast higher quality craftsmanship and unique designs that stand out from mass-produced goods. Additionally, choosing vintage is a more sustainable option, reducing waste and supporting a circular economy. By investing in vintage items, one can add character and a sense of history to their space, creating a distinctive style that transcends trends.
Photography: I take macro photos of nature and vintage architecture because I am captivated by the intricate details that are often overlooked in daily life. By focusing on these subjects up close, I reveal a world of textures, patterns, and colors that create a sense of wonder and appreciation for the beauty that surrounds us. Adding abstract elements to my photos allows me to infuse a sense of creativity and imagination, transforming ordinary scenes into visually stimulating compositions that challenge the viewer's perceptions. Through my photography, I aim to inspire others to pause, observe, and find joy in the simplicity and complexity of the world we inhabit.
Common thread: All of my work shares the common thread of capturing the essence of time. Each form of expression delves into interpreting elements of the past through creative and often unconventional means. My abstract art distills historical architecture into fundamental shapes and colors. Vintage furniture embodies the craftsmanship and design trends of bygone eras, reflecting the lifestyle and societal norms of the time. Macro photography of historical architecture zooms in on specific architectural details, revealing hidden beauty and craftsmanship that may often go unnoticed. Together, these art forms intertwine history, culture, and artistry, inviting viewers to appreciate the beauty and complexity of the past in innovative ways.
